Pillowcase (16"x 16")

Picture
Material/ Cutting:
1 . Paper Piecing Block of your choice, I used Santa's mittens, but any other will work just as well :-)
The finished block should messure aprox 8 1/2" x 8 1/2".
2. 48 squares of fabric scraps 2 1/2" x 2 1/2 ".
3. low volume fusable batting 17" x 17"
4. Two  13" x17" fabrics for the back side

Bild
Step 1
Finish your paper Piecing Block , it should messure 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" when finished.
I added small pom poms to mine.

Bild
Step 2
Now you cut 48 squares size 2 1/2" x 2 1/2 ".
If possible, choose colors that match you quilt block.

Bild
Step 3
Place your squares around your quiltblock in whichever order you like best.
I did the inner circle first and then added the outercircle. I find this the easiest way to
place the colours evenly.

Bild
Step 4
Sew together the squares. At first the 8 squares for either side, left and right and join these with the quilt block. then you sew together 16 squares each for the bottom and the top part of the quilt block and join these.
Add now the fusable batting to this by ironing it to the back side.

Step 5
To make the back of the pillow, place one of the 13"x 17" fabric rectangles wrong side up, fold over the long edge ½” twice, press and stitch in place. Repeat this to make the second one. Align the backing pieces, right sides up and raw edges aligned. The hemmed edges should overlap aprox 6". Trim to 16 1/2 " x 16 1/2" same size as pillowcase top.  Clip the backing in place and machine baste ⅛″ from the edge on both sides.

Step 6
Quilt the pillow top. I did this with simple handquilting stitches along the outline of the mittens and along the squares. But you can also machine quilt. Whatever you prefer.

Bild
Step 7
To finish the pillowcase place front and back right sides together and stitch these two together along the outer edges.
